Malkia Strikers captain Meldinah Sande has backed Kenya to successful defend their African title and seal qualification for the 2028 Olympics in the process.

Sande says the team is ready for the challenge after completing their preparations, with the players now focused on keeping the continental title in Kenya.

“I can assure you that the team has been named, every player was good and we are just promising the best, said Sande.”

Sande has meanwhile called on fans to turn up and support the team during the championship and with the Olympic qualification target firmly in sight.

While tipping Kenya to ensure that the trophy will remain at home, Sande welcomed the new players into the squad, highlighting Milka Akinyi, who earned her maiden call-up to the senior national team from St. Cecilia Misikhu Girls.

“We Kenyans are blessed because we have many growing different talents especially the games that are going on in schools, she said.”

Akinyi said that commitment and courage helped her earn a place in the national team and she hopes to build a successful volleyball career.

She has rallied fellow prospects to focus on working hard as they eye successful careers in the game.
