PUBG Mobile and smartphone maker Infinix have launched a nationwide university esports tournament in Kenya, with student gamers set to compete for a $1,000 prize pool and 10 Infinix GT 30 Pro smartphones.

In a statement on Thursday, the two brands said the PUBG MOBILE Varsity Showdown (PMVS) will run from mid-May to late June 2026, bringing together university teams from across the country in a multi-stage competition.

According to the organisers, the tournament will feature online qualifiers, quarter-finals and semi-finals, before culminating in offline grand finals, with the date to be announced.

Each team will consist of four players and one substitute, with official PUBG Mobile tournament rules and scoring systems applying throughout the competition.

The organisers said the partnership will give players a chance to experience the newly launched Infinix GT 30 Pro, which they described as designed for smooth gaming performance, fast response and cooling capabilities for esports play.

The campaign will also include campus ambassador mobilisation, community-driven engagement, social media creator campaigns, weekly mini online tournaments and user-generated content challenges, the statement said.

Registration is open to university students countrywide through an online form provided by the organisers.
