PS Omollo: Pending Wajir stadium construction to be completed after Madaraka Day celebrations

Speaking to the press from Wajir on Sunday, the PS noted that the stadium can accommodate expected 10,000 attendees to the celebrations but pending works will be executed after.

He added that the roofing is 60 percent done and other amenities set to be installed are the tartan track among others.

"The expectation is that the team that is responsible, under the supervision of the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) will be able to finish that within a month from tomorrow after the celebrations," he said.

Members of the public eyeing to attend the function are expected to be at the venue by 7am as PS Omollo said the programme seeks to end the function by noon, to allow Muslim attendees to observe Dhuhr, their afternoon prayers.

President William Ruto is later expected to host a State luncheon in the same area. 

He further attributed the swift construction of the facility to the Wajir County Government, saying that it has supported the project which is set to improve livelihoods of neighboring communities. 

Among the projects executed, according to the PS, include rehabilitation of old roads and the construction of a 25-kilometre new road improving connectivity.

He added that a borehole dug to aid the construction has also been opened for members of the public to provide sufficient water.

The government has been conducting a thematic week at Wagberi Primary School from May 25 to May 31, 2026, with a focus on education, skills, and the future, a theme aligned with the celebrations.
