Prove you are a son of Mau Mau, Raila dares Gachagua

Azimio La Umoja One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga has dared Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has taken a stab at the heart of one of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's claims that he is the son of a Mau Mau freedom fighter.

Mr Odinga, on Monday, dared Mr Gachagua to prove that his father was a member of Mau Mau, the militant group that fought for Kenya’s freedom from British colonial rule.

Gachagua has for a long time, claimed that his father was a Mau Mau fighter a tactic that many say is his strategy of gaining political ground in the vote-rich Mount Kenya GEMA region.

Addressing the press in Nairobi on Monday, Odinga, however, poked holes at Gachagua’s claims demanding that the former Mathira MP comes clean on his relationship with Nderi Gachagua Wang’ombe.

“Mr Gachagua, you and (Kikuyu MP) Kimani Ichung’wah have been bragging all along that you are the sons of Mau Mau. I want to challenge you today Mr Gachagua, to tell Kenyans your relationship with Chief Nderi Gachagua Wang’ombe, who was assassinated by the Mau Mau in 1953 because of his collaboration with the brutal colonial regime,” Odinga said.

Wang’ombe, according to historical accounts, was a colonial chief who was murdered in Nyeri by the Mau Mau on October 22, 1952.

“That Gachagua came from Mathira, we want you to come clean and tell Kenyans your relationship with him. Tell us also, if your father was a Mau Mau, what was his service number in the Mau Mau movement? The same thing with Kimani Ichung’wah,” the opposition leader added.
