Property razed down as Technical University of Mombasa students stage protest

A section of the Technical University of Mombasa went up in flames on Monday midmorning as students protested against the administration.

Clouds of smoke were seen billowing from the Mombasa-based college in videos shared online, as students marched around the campus carrying placards and twigs.

A large inferno was seen razing down stalls at the university student centre.

The students demanded an explanation from the administration on fee increment and what they described as the de-registration of students from the online portal due to missing marks.

They accused a section of the faculty of negligence.

Police engaged the students in running battles and lobbed teargas. The value of property destroyed in the protest could not be immediately established.
