Probe on after wife of president Moi's former security officer goes missing

Lily Chorono Kimtai, 53, is also reported to have disappeared with a firearm belonging to her husband Michael Kimtai, a former presidential security officer as officers now intensify their probe on the matter.

At the Kimtai family home, in Kaplamai, Cherangany Constituency, Trans Nzoia County, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have descended, combing through every corner for forensic clues. 

"This matter I have reported even to the highest office of the police force the the high command of the police force is aware that I have reported that my wife went when missing on 9th," Kimtai said.

He recounts his shock saying that he received a message from Lily at 7:30 p.m. while undergoing medical tests in Nairobi, saying she planned to travel to Mombasa the next day for leisure. 

He insists he knew nothing about the trip.

"I have looked around where in my safe has been taken away, my gun is gone and I'm suspecting there was somebody or some people can exactly attractive from the house and they force her to give the money or give them the gun because a person who might have come here must have known that I have or I hold a gun," he said.

Lily’s phone went silent after the alarming message. A farmhand was then sent to check the house the next morning and found it locked. Inside the house investigators discovered the licensed firearm and its case missing.  

"Hio jumatano tukitoka aliniita ilikuwa jioni na nikamsukumia mlango huko nyuma nikamuwacha ndani sasa thursday tukakuja huwa ananiita kumsaidia kazi tukapitia huko nyuma tukaenda shamba ,wakati tulikuwa huko kwa shamba na wamama wenzangu wakaniuliza mbona leo bibi ya tajiri hajakuita na amezoea kukuita?" he posed.

Lily's disappearance and the missing gun now form a double mystery. 

Detectives are piecing together timelines, phone records, and witness accounts to establish whether the two are linked.  

As the probe deepens, the family clings to hope, while investigators face mounting pressure to unravel the truth behind Lily’s disappearance  and the missing weapon.
