Probe intensifies into Kiritiri acid attack as detectives pursue motive

Investigators are reportedly pursuing several key leads as they seek to establish the motive behind the gruesome attack that has shocked residents and sparked widespread calls for justice.

Sources close to the investigations indicate that detectives suspect the assault may have been carefully planned and executed by individuals familiar with the victim’s daily routine and movements.

Among the possible angles being explored are a suspected love triangle, business rivalry within the miraa trade, and personal differences that may have escalated into a revenge mission.

According to preliminary findings, Wanjiru followed a predictable daily schedule and regularly used the same boda boda rider while travelling to Kiritiri Market for her business activities. Detectives believe the attackers may have monitored her movements for several days before carrying out the assault.

The DCI is also conducting forensic analysis on the deceased’s mobile phone as part of efforts to uncover possible communication between Wanjiru and the suspects before the attack.

Investigators are examining call logs, text messages, mobile money transactions, and social media communication to determine whether the victim had recently received threats or had disagreements with individuals known to her.

Authorities are further expected to obtain mobile phone data and location tracking records to establish the last people who contacted the deceased and whether any suspicious communication can be linked to the attackers.

Detectives have also questioned individuals close to Wanjiru, including friends, business associates, and people believed to have interacted with her in the days leading to the incident

Investigators are additionally trying to establish how the suspects obtained the corrosive chemical believed to have been used in the attack.

The boda boda rider who survived the attack told the media that the assailants appeared organized and deliberate. He said the suspects slowed down beside them on a motorbike before one of them hurled the acid at close range. According to the rider, the attackers had concealed their identities using face masks

The killing has left residents of Kiritiri living in fear, with locals now demanding swift and thorough investigations to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.

Meanwhile, the family of the late Jackline Wanjiru has continued to appeal for justice following her tragic death.

Her mother, Bancy Ndegi, described Wanjiru as a humble and peaceful young woman who was raised in the church and maintained good relationships with everyone around her.

In an emotional appeal, Bancy urged the government and investigative agencies to conduct comprehensive investigations and ensure those behind the heinous act are held accountable.

“What we need is justice and nothing else,” she said.

Wanjiru’s aunt, Patricia Ndegi, described the death as a devastating loss to the family, saying the deceased was a promising young woman whose future had been cut short in a cruel manner.

She said the family was still struggling to understand the motive behind the attack, insisting that Wanjiru had never been involved in conflicts with anyone.

“Jacky never had issues with anyone. Whoever eliminated her, we do not know what motive they had,” she said while urging investigators to leave no stone unturned in pursuing justice.

Police have not yet announced any arrests as investigations continue.
