Police in Bomet County have launched investigations into the murder of a prison warder, Abigael Chepkemoi, whose body was found inside her house in Sotik town on Friday.

Sotik Sub-County Police Commander Sammy Choge said preliminary investigations suggest the killing may have been linked to a suspected love triangle, but emphasised that detectives are still working to establish the exact circumstances surrounding her death and identify those responsible.

"Tumepoteza mmoja wa officers wetu ambao anafanya Kenya Prisons, uchunguzi inafanywa, scenes of crime wamechukua uchunguzi na tutawaeleza yale yote itaweza kutokea,” Choge said.

The incident has shocked residents of Sotik, with police appealing to members of the public to share any information that could assist investigators as the probe continues.

The deceased, who was attached to Sotik Prison at the time of her death, was taken to Kaplong Mission Hospital Mortuary for preservation pending a post-mortem examination.

"It is so sad to lose a young officer just because of small differences in our families. Let us protect our girls, let us protect our boys, let us work hard. We will continue shouting so that whoever amefanya jambo kama hilo ashikwe. Akishikwa akue ni kama example kwa wengine wasiendelee kuuwana, kuchapana,” Bomet Senator Hillary Sigei added.
