Police in Homa Bay are investigating the death of a 40-year-old prison warden at the Homa Bay GK Prison.

According to the police, the deceased died by suspected suicide just hours after receiving orders transferring him to a new station in Siaya.

The body of Constable Ronald Benard Ochieng was discovered inside his house by colleagues who had gone to check on him.

Homa Bay County Criminal Investigation Officer (CCIO) Peter Kimulwo said that the officer had been informed of his pending deployment from Homa-Bay GK prison to Siaya GK prison, but had declined.

According to the police, the officer was last month admitted at the Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital with severe pneumonia, and had just recently been discharged.

The officer had served in the Kenya Prison Service for nearly 20 years.

The body has been taken to Homa Bay County Hospital morgue. The police are investigating the incident.
