President William Ruto, on the second day of his Murang'a County tour, has insisted that the people of the region will decide who their preferred presidential candidate will be in 2027.

He emphasised that no one should claim they will decide for the region, noting that it has previously had influential leaders who still allowed residents to determine their political direction.

" Mimi ni mfanyikazi wenu. Kuna mwingine anasema ati niende nikuwe mfanyikazi wake. Nioshe sufuria, vyombo kwake, hiyo asahau kabisa. Mimi nitakuja kuongea na nyinyi, ama namna gani? Na nyinyi mtapima kazi yangu."

The President's remarks come amid accusations by his former deputy, Rigathi Gachagua who has warned of consequences for allegedly betraying the Mt Kenya region.

Gachagua, who has been on an anti-government campaign since his impeachment, claimed that the Mt Kenya region was duped into supporting President Ruto but was neglected after he took office.

"I had a friend who we worked with and whom I helped very much, he used to call me Riggy G and Baba Kevin, but now he is pretending not to know me, he is now calling me a tribalist," Gachagua stated during a tour of Nyandarua County.

"Now we only depend on God because human beings are unpredictable, some of us especially people from this region are now very careful, if someone comes to us now, we will do a thorough background check," he added.
