President Ruto meets Parliamentary leadership as process to handle issues raised by Azimio starts

The process was proposed by President Ruto on Sunday at a state address, noting that it will help streamline the contentious issues fronted by the Azimio la Umoja coalition.

"My suggestion is that this matter can be handled by Parliament so that we can agree on what the issue is and we can adjust as agreed and as necessary," Ruto said.

In a statement on Monday, President Ruto stated that he has urged the leaders to consider the proposal and address the matter effectively.

"We are convinced the issues shall be conclusively handled by Parliament in order to allow us focus on our economic transformation programme," read the statement shared on his official Twitter page.

The leaders present were National Assembly (NA) majority leader Kimani Ichungwah, deputy Majority Leader Owen Baya, Majority Whip Sylvanus Osoro (South Mugirango) and deputy Majority Whip Naomi Jillo. 

Others were Senate Majority leader Aaron Cheruiyot, deputy Majority Leader Tabitha Keroche (Nakuru), and Deputy Majority whip Lelegwe Ltumbesi.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua also joined the meeting.

Among the issues raised by the opposition is the recruitment of commissioners to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

This, President Ruto, said that the IEBC selection panel and the future recruitment of its commissioners could yield "constitutionally and legally binding proposals."
