President Ruto commissions road, water and housing projects on final day of Kajiado tour

The President’s itinerary included the commissioning of road and water projects, inspection and launch of Affordable Housing projects as well as the handing over and groundbreaking of modern markets in the fast-growing peri-urban constituency.

To address persistent traffic congestion in Ngong, President Ruto announced that the Karen-Ngong-Kiserian-Ongata Rongai road will soon be upgraded into a dual carriageway through funding from the National Infrastructure Fund.

“Before December 2026, we will have commenced work on the road so that we can eliminate the traffic gridlock often witnessed,” he said in Rongai, Kajiado North Constituency, on Monday.

He also announced plans to build a bypass around Ngong to enable travellers between Nairobi and Suswa, and vice versa, to avoid passing through the town.

Present were Kajiado Governor Joseph ole Lenku, Deputy Governor Martin Moshisho, MPs Memusi ole Kanchory (Kajiado Central), Kakuta ole Maimai (Kajiado East), Samuel Parashina (Kajiado South) and Women Rep Leah Sankaire.

Others were former Kajiado Governor David ole Nkedianye, Principal Secretaries, MCAs and other leaders.

The President began the tour of Kajiado North Constituency by inspecting the 1,910-unit Ngong VET Affordable Housing Project, which is scheduled for completion in March 2027. It has created employment for more than 1,500 people.

President Ruto said the Government is investing KSh20 billion in the construction of 10,000 modern housing units across Kajiado County, creating employment opportunities for about 5,200 local youth.

He criticised political leaders seeking to derail the Affordable Housing Programme, saying such efforts undermine opportunities for young Kenyans.

“Some 1.1 million Kenyans have been employed in the Affordable Housing Programme. Where will they take them?” he asked.

The President subsequently commissioned the Kahara-Ngong road, launched construction of the Ngong Stadium Loop Road and addressed residents at Ngong Town.

Overall, he said, the Government is investing KSh15 billion to upgrade the road network across Kajiado County during the current financial year.

At Gataka, President Ruto commissioned the Kiserian-Ongata Rongai Water Supply Project, a KSh1.3 billion investment by Government of Kenya in partnership with the German Development Bank.

The project will supply five million litres of clean water daily to 180,000 residents.

At Nakel, he inspected the ongoing upgrade of the Embulbul-Gataka-Ongata Rongai road, part of a 65km network being improved at a cost of KSh2.5 billion to enhance access and connectivity across the area.

In Ongata Rongai, President Ruto laid the foundation stone for a modern market, a KSh210 million investment that will provide trading space for 1,000 traders. He also commissioned a KSh70 million modern market, which will benefit 200 traders.

Additionally, he launched construction of the 5km Ongata-Rongai SGR Station Access Road, a KSh300 million project that will improve connectivity and facilitate access to the railway station.

On healthcare, President Ruto said about 740,000 residents of Kajiado County have registered with the Social Health Authority (SHA) while health facilities across the county have received KSh2.7 billion over the past one and a half years.

“Under SHA, it is not a must for one to hold a formal job or a payslip to benefit. This programme caters for all without favour,” he said.

On education, the President announced that the Government will build 40 additional classrooms at Ongata Rongai Primary School to address congestion and provide learners with a more conducive environment for learning.

He reaffirmed the Government's commitment to ensuring that every Kenyan child has access to quality and affordable education.

President Ruto urged Kenyans to reject leaders without a vision, plan or agenda for the country, particularly those who seek to divide citizens along ethnic lines.

“They have no vision, plans or agenda for Kenya. All they have are empty slogans which cannot improve the livelihoods of citizens,” he said.
