President William Ruto on Wednesday awarded a charter to Riara University, upgrading it to a fully accredited higher learning institution.

Speaking at State House on Wednesday, President Ruto lauded the institution for its commitment to improving the quality of high-education by strengthening the university sector's capacity.

He also lauded the Riara Group founders, Daniel Gachukia and Prof. Eddah Gachukia, for their exemplary impact and legacy which he confidently noted will leave an indelible mark in the education sector.

"Their work over the past 50 years has positively shaped the landscape of Kenya, teaching and learning, touching thousands of lives and positively affecting the destinies of many," noted Ruto.

President Ruto also awarded the two founders with Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS).

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos added that Riara University is now poised to further its mission of empowering lives and impacting communities

"This new status will enable the institution to expand its programmes, enhance its research capabilities and continue to produce graduates who are ready to meet the challenges of our dynamic world," he noted.

A university charter is the highest level of certification for universities in Kenya.

Riara achieved the esteemed status under the guidance of the Commission for University Education (CUE).
