President William Ruto has appointed Mr. Patrick Mwiti Arandu as the new Commissioner General of Prisons.

Mr Arandu's appointment was announced on Friday by State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed in a statement to newsrooms.

He is set to take over from Brigadier (Rtd) John Warioba who is proceeding on terminal leave pending the end of his tenure of office.

Brigadier (Rtd) Warioba took over as Commissioner General of Prisons in November 2021 following the sacking of Wycliffe Ogalo by then-President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Warioba is an extensively experienced former soldier who has, among other roles, served as a sector commander for AMISOM in the fight against Al-Shabaab in Somalia.
