Powerful individuals protecting suspects of All Saints church attack - Provost Omollo

Speaking on Citizen Tv’s Daybreak on Monday, Omollo alleged that the case had already been abandoned after powerful individuals instructed the investigating officers to do so. 

He further maintained that the matter was handled exclusively in that no one has been allowed to issue a statement.

“I am afraid nothing would come from this, you saw the statement by the DCI, nothing has come from each of the places where goons attacked. There will be a lot of PR, a lot of statements but nothing happens. And I can promise you nothing will come from this,” he said. 

Omollo further claimed there are powerful individuals hampering the process of bringing the suspects to book. 

“They are the ones who made the calls to the I/Os who are handling the case and told them to abandon that case,” said the provost.

According to Omollo, the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI )'s request for additional information is uncalled for as CCTV footage already provides all information. 

Annet Nerima, a Program Manager at the Kenya Human Rights Commission, seconded Omollo, saying they have reached a dead end due to inadequate information regarding the investigation process.

“We have been following up, but we have been unable to make headway. If information is missing, what does that tell you?” remarked Nerima.

Further, she alleged that a suspected goon had named a Cabinet Secretary as as their financier. 

“It is very unfortunate that people who swear by the constitution to protect the integrity of that constitution would be suspected to be part of hiring goons to disrupt an innocent, non-political public gathering that is basically enhancing what government should be doing,” remarked Omollo.

On Friday, suspected goons forced their way into All Saint’s Cathedral, unleashing terror on civil society groups who were in a post-budget conference. 

Police intervened after they had assaulted some attendees and destroyed the conference materials.
