Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen now says the National Police Service (NPS) will not tolerate goons and political violence as the country prepares for the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during the half marathon in Kericho hosted by
Belgut MP Nelson Koech, the Interior CS said the security agencies will be on high alert to ensure any planned violence is averted before it happens, adding
that police will deploy a new strategy to deal with goons.
“I want to commend the Inspector General of police because
he now has a new strategy to arrest and detain goons even before they get to
meetings to cause violence,” Murkomen noted.
CS Murkomen further called on Kenyans to hold politicians
who sponsor and facilitate goonism accountable and even keep off their rallies.
He also urged political leaders to work closely with security
agencies and adhere to security advisories and protocols issued by the
government.
“I want to advise the people of Kenya not to go to the
meetings of leaders who are paying and walking around with goons."
Interior Principal Secretary (PS) Raymond Omollo further urged
the youth to veer off from the influence of political leaders using them as conduits
of violence
Similar sentiments were echoed by the Federation of Evangelical
and Indigenous Churches of Kenya.
