Heavily armed militants launched a Sunday evening attack on Arabia town in Mandera County, sparking a fierce shootout with security forces who successfully repelled the invaders.

Senior intelligence officials in Mandera confirmed that security personnel engaged the assailants in a heavy gunfight, ultimately forcing them to retreat.

According to official reports, police officers and local security stationed in the border town managed to hold their positions and secure the area.

While the identity of the gunmen has not been officially confirmed, officers suspected it to be Al-Shabaab militants, who have historically targeted towns along the volatile Kenya-Somalia border.

Mandera senior police command stated that they have not yet recorded any casualties from the encounter.

A comprehensive assessment is currently underway to determine the full extent of the incident, and security agencies have intensified patrols in the region to track down the fleeing attackers.
