Police in Katulani, Kitui county have netted 741 cartons of assorted liquor.

Area Deputy County Commissioner Shufaa Omar said this follows a tip-off from members of the public.

"We received information from locals that there is a consignment of illegal brew that is stocked in one of the homes at Wikililye," Omar said.

A joint effort by officers from Katulani police post and their colleagues from Wikililye police post saw the more than 700 cartons confiscated.

"The cartons contained at least 20 bottles of liquor packed in 250ml bottles," police added.

Following the operation, officers led by Kitui police commander Leah Kithei collected the samples for tests.

"A team comprising Kenya Revenue Authority officials arrived at the scene and collected samples for tests," Omar noted.

Meanwhile, residents have been cautioned against the illegal trade, with police warning that those involved in the trade will face the law.
