The victim, identified as Dr. Emmanuel Kerich, was accosted while in the company of friends at Juja City Mall.
After the kidnap, three assailants handcuffed him and forced him into a Subaru Forester bearing registration number KBK 895W.
According to preliminary investigations by law enforcement, the suspects had altered the vehicle's side mirrors to display a different registration identity, KDQ 640F, in a deliberate attempt to conceal the car's identity during the crime.
Following the abduction, the captors drove Dr. Kerich through several locations, subjecting him to torture while making demands for the Ksh. 3 million payout.
The kidnappers then directed the vehicle toward Athi River.
Acting on real-time intelligence and supported by public assistance, police officers trailed the vehicle and managed to intercept it along Mavemba–Mugoya Road in Athi River.
A confrontation ensued at the scene, during which two of the suspects managed to flee.
The third suspect was cornered by an angry crowd and subjected to mob injustice before police officers intervened.
Officers rescued the injured suspect and rushed him to the hospital, where he remains admitted under strict police guard.
According to the police, Dr. Kerich was rescued safely without further harm.
During the operation, police recovered a pair of handcuffs believed to have been used in the kidnapping and also impounded the Subaru Forester as an exhibit to assist in ongoing investigative work.
Detectives have launched a joint manhunt to track down and arrest the two fleeing suspects.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has urged members of the public with any information regarding the incident or the whereabouts of the fugitives to report anonymously through their toll-free hotline or official WhatsApp channel.
