Police FC delivered a ruthless first-half performance to beat AFC Leopards 3-0 in a league match at Nyayo Stadium, dealing a blow to Leopards’ quest to end their 28-year wait for the league title.
Police took control from the outset and were rewarded in the
seventh minute when Yves Koutiama pounced on a defensive mix-up to hand his
side an early lead.
The goal disrupted Leopards' rhythm, with the hosts
struggling to string together meaningful attacks.
The pressure continued to mount, and in the 31st minute,
Police struck again. A swift counterattack sliced through the Leopards'
defense, allowing Erick Zakayo to calmly slot home and double the advantage.
Leopards looked rattled at the back and their problems
deepened just before halftime. In the 45th minute, Charles Ouma capitalised on
space in the box to fire in a third, capping a dominant opening half that left
the law enforcers firmly in control.
After the restart, AFC Leopards attempted to show urgency
but couldn't manage to break down a disciplined Police defense. Their attacks
lacked penetration, with most efforts ending up posing minimal to zero threat
to Police FC.
Police, on the other hand, managed the game effectively,
maintaining their shape and occasionally threatening on the break without
overcommitting.
The result leaves AFC Leopards trailing title rivals Gor
Mahia by two points, having played 28 matches compared to Gor Mahia's 27. With
fewer games remaining, the margin for error continues to shrink.
In the other league matches, Tusker drew 0-0 against
Sofapaka as Mathare United beat Bidco 3-0.
