Platcorp Group recognized for strides in financial technology

The award, which was given out by FinTech Breakthrough on Tuesday, honours businesses that have made significant contributions to financial technology. 

Platcorp was chosen because of its strategy for providing financial services and loans in areas where access to traditional banking is still restricted.

The Nairobi based company focuses on offering financing solutions to people and micro, small, and medium-sized businesses. It works in five markets. 

The award, according to the corporation, is a reflection of its ongoing investment in technology-driven processes that are intended to address issues like fragmented data and inadequate infrastructure.

The leadership of Platcorp cited its use of cloud-based technologies and integrated data platforms to enhance productivity, risk management, and decision making. 

Its in-house system, Akili, unifies data from various business operations to provide quicker insights and allow the application of AI to improve service delivery.

The company was recognised by the FinTech Breakthrough Awards organisers for its capacity to implement scalable financial solutions in distant and low-connectivity settings, where credit availability is frequently limited. 

Now in its tenth year, the program honours accomplishments in a variety of fields, including financial infrastructure, lending, digital banking, and payments.

Since its founding in 2003, Platcorp Group claims to have given out over $7 billion in loans to millions of customers, with a particular emphasis on underprivileged borrowers. With more than 11,000 employees, the company presents itself as an impact-driven lender that aims to increase financial inclusion.

The FinTech Breakthrough Awards, which bring together global innovators and industry leaders to honour innovations influencing the future of financial services, will celebrate ten years in 2026.
