Diani-based South Coast Pirates took a significant step in their battle against relegation with a commanding 17-0 victory over visiting Nakuru RFC in a Kenya Cup clash at Seacrest Grounds, Diani.

The win strengthens their survival hopes while deepening Nakuru RFC’s struggles at the lower end of the standings.

The match began with a tense opening quarter, as both teams fought for dominance. Pirates’ Kelly Akengo broke the deadlock past the 15-minute mark, slotting in a penalty to give the hosts a 3-0 lead. With Nakuru RFC struggling to find their rhythm, the Pirates capitalized on their momentum.

Before halftime, the home side extended their advantage when Collins Kabayo powered over for a crucial try. Akengo successfully converted, ensuring Pirates entered the break with a 10-0 lead.

Pirates continued their dominance in the second half, maintaining relentless attacking pressure. Their efforts were rewarded when they were awarded a penalty try after Sospeter Rofino was neck-tackled inside the try zone, pushing the score to 17-0.

The match ended in controversy when Nakuru RFC, frustrated by a penalty decision against them, opted to walk off the pitch, effectively ending any hopes of a late comeback.

This victory is a massive boost for South Coast Pirates as they fight to maintain their place in the Kenya Cup. For Nakuru RFC, the defeat compounds an already difficult season, leaving them in a precarious position.

With the league entering a crucial phase, this result could prove pivotal for Pirates as they push to secure their top-flight status.
