Pink Zebra crossings bring Breast Cancer awareness to Nairobi

Nairobi’s streets have gained a striking new feature and a meaningful message. Zebra crossings at City Hall, the Supreme Court and the Archives have been painted pink through a partnership between Hermosa Paints and Mapema Ndio Breast.
The completed crossings turn familiar city landmarks into visible reminders of breast cancer awareness. Each day, pedestrians and motorists passing through these locations encounter the campaign as part of their everyday journey. The pink stripes invite people to pause, take notice and reflect on the importance of breast health.
By placing the campaign in busy public spaces, Hermosa Paints and Mapema Ndio Breast are helping take awareness beyond traditional campaign venues. The message is now part of the city’s streetscape where it can reach people going to work, visiting public offices or moving through the heart of Nairobi.
The project combines Hermosa Paints’ contribution to the visual transformation with Mapema Ndio Breast’s commitment to raising awareness. Together, the partners have given three zebra crossings a new purpose: not only to guide people across the road, but also to draw attention to an important health conversation.
The colour pink is widely associated with breast cancer awareness, but the crossings represent more than a visual statement. They serve as reminders to seek reliable information, talk about breast health and consult qualified health professionals about screening and care. Early detection matters, and greater awareness can encourage people to take their health seriously.
The locations make the initiative especially visible. With crossings at City Hall, the Supreme Court and the Archives, the campaign reaches some of Nairobi’s most recognised public areas. People who may not attend a dedicated awareness event can still encounter its message as they move through the city.
The completed crossings also show how partnerships can bring public-health messages into everyday life. By combining community advocacy with practical support, Hermosa Paints and Mapema Ndio Breast have transformed ordinary road markings into lasting symbols of awareness and collaboration.
As Nairobi residents cross the pink stripes, the hope is that the message will travel with them: start a conversation, learn about breast health and seek appropriate professional guidance. At City Hall, the Supreme Court and the Archives, the pink zebra crossings are more than a splash of colour they are a visible call to care.
