Petrol, diesel, kerosene prices all rise by Ksh.5.50

The price of all three fuel products has
increased for yet another month in the latest maximum price review by the
Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).
The cost of all three commodities is expected
to rise by Ksh.5.50 per litre effective from Sunday midnight.
The price review will send the cost of fuel
products in the country to a new record high.
EPRA has attributed the price jump to an
increase in the average landed cost of the fuel products with kerosene marking
the highest price jump at 31.13 per cent.
Super Petrol is now expected to cost
Ksh.150.12 in the capital city Nairobi while the cost of diesel and kerosene
will rise to Ksh.131 and Ksh.118.94 per litre respectively.
The government has nevertheless continued to
utilize the fuel subsidy to cushion Kenyans from a greater spike in fuel costs.
For instance, in the cycle between May 15 and
June 14, the price stabilization mechanism has subsidized Ksh.26.35 on the cost
of super petrol, Ksh.43.94 for diesel and Ksh.50.32 for kerosene.
Without the subsidy, petrol would cost Ksh.176.47
while diesel would cost Ksh.174.94 and Ksh.169.26 respectively.
