A passenger has died aboard a Kenya Airways flight from Nairobi to Lagos, Nigeria, after suffering a medical emergency shortly before landing.

In a statement on Wednesday, Kenya Airways said the incident occurred on Tuesday, October 6, aboard its Nairobi-Lagos flight.

According to the airline, the passenger was found unresponsive at around 9.20pm Nigerian time, approximately 20 minutes before the aircraft was due to land in Lagos.

The cabin crew administered first aid and followed emergency procedures as the flight continued to Murtala Muhammed International Airport.

The aircraft landed at 9.41pm, where it was met by medical personnel.

"Upon further examination, the medical personnel confirmed that the passenger had passed away," Kenya Airways said.

The airline did not disclose the identity of the passenger or the suspected cause of death.

Kenya Airways said it was working with the passenger's family, local authorities and aviation regulators following the incident.

"We convey our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased," the airline said.
