Parliament invites public participation on Ksh.4.8T 2026 budget

The National Assembly has invited members of the public to submit their views on the budget estimates for the Financial Year 2026/27 through public participation.

In a public notice, National Assembly Clerk Samuel Njoroge said that public hearings will be conducted from May 13 to 15 in different counties at designated venues.

Likewise, any written submissions are to be hand-delivered to the office of the Clerk in Parliament buildings or emailed to cna@parliament.go.ke or on before May 25 at 5:00pm.

On May 13, the meetings will be scheduled in Kitui, Garissa, Homa Bay, Nyandarua and Nairobi counties. They will be held at the Kitui multi-purpose hall, the Garissa Library, Orero Boys National School Hall, Ol Joro Orok CDF Hall and the Utawala DCC office, respectively.

On May 14, hearings will be held in Busia (Busia Agricultural Training Center), Siaya (Siaya IEBC Hall), Bungoma (ICM Kopsiro), Kirinyaga (CDF Hall), Taita Taveta (Buguta Social Hall, Voi), and Tana River (County Social Hall, Hola).

Other counties are Marsabit (Catholic Church), Bomet (St.Bakita conference centre) and Kajiado (Kiserian Don Bosco).

The last day, May 15, will have Kenyans hold similiar meetings in West Pokot and Meru counties in Mtelo nd Kamundi halls, respectively.

The National Treasury has tabled a Ksh.4.82 trillion budget proposal for the 2026/27 financial year, seeing a 1.92% increase in total expenditure supported by Ksh.3.63 trillion in projected revenue and a deficit of Ksh.1.11 trillion, which will be financed by domestic borrowing of Ksh.995.7 billion

The Ksh.4.8 trillion will be shared under three main categories: Ksh.2.89 trillion at the national government level, which includes the Judiciary and Parliament; Ksh.1.5 trillion for Consolidated Fund Services; and Ksh.420 billion for county governments, a rise of Ksh.5 billion from the current year’s allocation.

At the national level, Ksh.3.54 trillion will finance recurrent expenditure, including salaries, operations and maintenance, and public debt servicing. Development expenditure will account for Ksh.749.0 billion.

Parliament will receive Ksh.48.69 billion, while the Judiciary is set to receive Ksh.30.44 billion.
