Parents and guardians have been urged to take greater responsibility for the safety, well-being and education of their children as schools close for the holiday.
Speaking to residents in Ndagani, Chuka North in Tharaka Nithi County, area Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Benson Karani called on members of the public to work together to enhance security and look out for one another, particularly university students returning home for the holidays.
The DCC also appealed to parents whose children are sitting national examinations to provide them with the necessary support and a conducive environment to prepare for their tests.
Nominated Member of the County Assembly (MCA) Risper Gakii underscored the importance of education, urging parents to remain actively involved in their children's lives and provide guidance throughout the holiday period.
Meanwhile, James Gitari, who heads a community-based organisation, called on the government to intensify the crackdown on illicit alcohol during the school holidays.
Gitari warned that the availability and consumption of illicit brew could expose children to harmful influences, urging authorities to strengthen enforcement measures to protect young people.
The leaders called on parents, community members and security agencies to work together to ensure children remain safe and focused on their education during the holiday period.
