Parents decry neglect at Block Ten ECD School in Molo

Parents of learners at Block Ten ECD School in Mariashoni Ward, Molo Constituency, have raised concern over what they describe as neglect by both the county and national governments.

The school has more than 200 learners but only two teachers; one employed by the Nakuru County Government and another paid by parents.

Parent representative Charles Londiani and PTA teacher Hillary Arap Chirchir say the high teacher-pupil ratio is affecting the quality of learning.

The parents are also concerned about the expected El Niño rains, saying flooding of small rivers and impassable roads could make it even more difficult for learners and teachers to access the school.

They further say the school only offers education up to Grade Three, forcing learners who complete the grade to walk more than six kilometres to primary schools in Vikingi and Kapsinendet.

According to the parents, the long distance has contributed to some children dropping out of school or repeating Grade Three.

“The situation here is worrying, and it seems no leader is addressing the issue,” said Hillary Arap Chirchir, a teacher.
