The Kenyan athlete, who has spina bifida, a congenital malformation of the spine, finished fifth at the Tokyo Paralympics in 2021. The national para powerlifting team for the visually impaired are raring to go ahead of the 2025 World Championships slated for Almaty City, Kazakhstan, beginning on Tuesday.

After landing on Sunday, the team immediately began the preparations for the World Cup.

The preparations include the establishment of divisions for the players based on their vision levels and body weight.

"I have already completed my classification, and I am ready to help the team clinch more medals when we start the tournament," said team captain Morris Kinywa.

The Kenya Sports Association for the Visually Impaired, KESAVI, said their preparations have positioned the team to scoop more medals compared to last year.

"We had good preparations that gave us an upper hand to perform better this year.

“We were in Astana in 2024 and we collected 12 medals, but now we aim for 20 plus," noted organising secretary Henry Zungu

Team Kenya, which travelled with twelve players, will participate in all categories of the competition, that is, Squat, Bench Press and Deadlift.
