Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development Alice Wahome presided over the issuance ceremony at Kihiu Mwiri Grounds on Friday, saying the exercise forms part of ongoing efforts to address long-standing land ownership challenges.
According to the CS, the 750 title deeds bring the total number issued in Kihiu Mwiri over the past three years to 4,450.
"A title deed is not only proof of ownership but also an important document that enables families to invest in their land, access credit, and participate in economic activities," Wahome said.
For years, many residents of Kihiu Mwiri had been unable to obtain title deeds due to protracted disputes and delays in the processing of land ownership documents. The issuance is expected to provide legal security to landowners and allow them to fully utilise their property.
Wahome said the government would continue implementing land reforms alongside other development programmes, including the Affordable Housing Programme and the construction of modern markets across the country.
She noted that more than 600,000 affordable housing units are currently at various stages of development nationwide.
The ceremony was attended by Nominated Senator Veronica Maina, Maragua MP Mary Waithera Wamaua, Murang'a County Commissioner Hassan Bule, and other local leaders.
Residents expressed optimism that the issuance of the title deeds would enable them to invest confidently in their land and improve their livelihoods after years of waiting for official ownership documents.
