Kenyans registered on the government’s Boma Yangu platform have surpassed the 1 million mark.

Speaking on the milestone, Housing PS Charles Hinga said the registrations reflect increasing public confidence in the government’s housing initiatives.

“One million Kenyans committing to own housing units is a significant achievement. Many are now saving for their preferred unit through the Boma Yangu portal,” he noted.

The projects situated within urban locations feature infrastructure developments including roads, electricity, and water and access to essential services such as schools, markets, healthcare, and shopping facilities.

PS Hinga cited the Mukuru Affordable Housing Project as an example of accelerated delivery under the program. In its first year, the project delivered 1,078 units, and as of 18 December, 4,500 completed units had been handed over to homeowners.

The estate includes a shopping complex, a Level 4 hospital, and an education complex comprising pre-primary, primary, and secondary schools.

The Affordable Housing Program (AHP) targets multiple income levels: social housing for households earning up to KSh 20,000 per month; affordable housing for those earning between KSh 20,000 and KSh 149,000; and market-rate housing for higher-income earners.

Currently, the program has over 262,913 units under construction across 47 counties. About 428,000 Kenyans are employed full-time at these sites, with an additional 1 million workers providing materials and services to support construction.
