Cracks within the opposition continue to widen following a
public spat between People’s Party of Kenya (PPK) leader Ndindi Nyoro and
Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) Secretary General John Methu, raising
questions about efforts to forge a united front ahead of the 2027 General
Election.
Nyoro, who took his campaign to Kajiado County alongside
Jubilee party leader Dr. Fred Matiang’i, dismissed Methu’s claims that he was a
mole within the opposition, accusing the Nyandarua Senator of having close
links with President William Ruto that could undermine opposition unity.
Nyoro also dismissed claims that he had been recruited to
acquire a political vehicle aimed at splitting the Mt, Kenya vote ahead of the
2027 polls.
“Ati anaenda pale anaita viongozi wengine moles, yeye anasema
wamepatana na President Ruto ati akampea Ksh.30 million…kwenye mnaonana na Ruto
usiku mkae na Ruto kule kule…mtu ile nyumba amelala leo, alinunuliwa na Ruto
2024 nyumba yake alafu unakuja kutu lecture hapa,” said Nyoro.
The Kiharu Member of Parliament dismissed allegations that he
was pushed to acquire a political vehicle to divide the Mount Kenya vote in
2027.
“Ile uongo mmesoma kwa Ruto msituletee hapa kwa upinzani, sisi
our eyes are wide open, our focus is direct, mara ya mwisho huyo jamaa
tulionana was two weeks before Ol Kalou by-elections wakati waliniomba pesa
nikampea kwa mkono yake, hiyo wakati Ndindi Nyoro alikuwa mtu mzuri wakati
nimeingia People’s Party unaanza vitina, pesa ya Ol Kalou tulichanga ile
ilibaki badala ya kupatia watu wa Ol Kalou ukanunua gari,” added Nyoro.
In an interview on Citizen TV’s Sunday Live show, Senator
Methu claimed to have been approached by government operatives to start a new
party to divide Mount Kenya region in favour of the current administration. He
said he consulted Ndindi who adviced against such a move, only only to form a
party soon after.
He also questioned Nyoro’s decision to abstain during the
impeachment proceedings aginst former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua,
suggesting that the PPK party leader could have received a similar offer.
“Ruto offered me Khs.30 million to abstain from the
impeachment process of Rigathi Gachagua. Now it makes me wonder because Ndindi
Nyoro himself abstained, maybe he had gotten the same offer. When we went to the
Finance Bill he really opposed, and when the real thing came of voting he kept
off,” Methu stated.
Dr. Matiang'I, who was with Ndindi in Kajiado. called for a
ceasefire and unity of purpose among oppositions parties.
“Uwe uko DCP, Wiper, DP, PLP, DAP-K, wewe uko kwa familia yetu
moja. Tusitumie wakati wetu mwingi kupigana, tuongee na wananchi pole pole,
mwishowe watatuamulia,” he said.
The two leaders also defended former President Uhuru Kenyatta
against attacks from President Ruto.
“Mheshiimiwa Rais afanye kazi yake, aache kisirani na yale
maneno anazungumza na ile ofisi anakaa ni ofisi tunaheshimu,” Matiang’I stated.
