Opposition leader Raila Odinga has eulogised the late Prof. George Magoha as a great man, saying his passing was a tragedy for the country.

Speaking at the burial of Prof. Magoha in Siaya on Saturday, Odinga said: "we have come to pay farewell and tribute to a great Kenyan. I want to say without fear of contradiction that right inside that coffin lies a great man."

He added: "We have come because of the tragedy that has befallen us."

The former prime minister defended Magoha from claims that he was an arrogant man, instead stating that he was a humble man and that "humility was his way of life."

"A lot has been said about George and I want to confirm what has been said about George is true," said Odinga.

Odinga went on to state: "Magoha excelled academically and humility was his way of life. He recognised everybody. Some people say that Magoha was arrogant I say no. Magoha was just straight-talking person and people sometimes don't like to hear the truth."
