One killed, several injured in school bus accident in Bungoma

One
person died and several others were injured on Thursday in a road accident involving a school
bus and motorcycle on Webuye-Bungoma Road.
According to police, the mini-bus belonging to Christ
the King Primary School was en route to Bungoma from Webuye, with 28 pupils on
board, when it collided with the motorcycle at Sikita Bridge. The motorcycle
had allegedly entered into the wrong lane.
“Upon
reaching the location of the accident, the motorcycle abruptly turned right
without due care and as a result, the vehicle hit the motorcycle and lost
control landing in a ditch on the left side,” a police report read in part.
The motorcycle’s rider, Patrick Masinde Moti, died on the spot while the passenger, Salome Fuchaka, sustained slight injuries on the left leg and was rushed to Bungoma Referral Hospital for treatment.
The 28 pupils and their driver, John
Barasa, escaped with minor injuries and were taken to Bungoma West Hospital for treatment.
The body of the deceased has since been moved to Bungoma County Referral Hospital Mortuary while the motor vehicle and motorcycle were towed
to Bungoma police station awaiting inspection.
