One person has drowned while two others have survived after a bodaboda was swept away in Kericho County.

The motorbike was swept away while attempting to cross a submerged bridge in Kipsitet River, located in Soin Ward, Sigowet Soin Constituency.

According to witnesses, the rider was unable to control the motorcycle due to the raging water that had submerged the bridge.

"As the rider attempted to navigate the dangerous crossing, the strong current overwhelmed the bike, sweeping it and its passengers downstream," a witness told Citizen Digital.

The rider managed to swim to safety after a struggle, while the male pillion passenger was rescued several kilometers downstream.

Tragically, the female pillion passenger remains missing, and by the time of reporting, her whereabouts had not been confirmed.

Local authorities have launched a search for the woman. The motorcycle was located some kilometers downstream and was recovered from the water.

Residents have expressed outrage over the state of the bridge and have criticized both local leaders and the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KERRA) for failing to improve infrastructure.

"The bridge is narrow, poorly maintained, and has sunken in places, making it a significant hazard for road users," residents said.
