Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala aims to make history at the upcoming Glasgow Commonwealth Games after securing qualification during the national trials held at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.

The reigning Commonwealth Games champions overcame difficult conditions and a strong headwind during the trials and still clocked an impressive 10.00 seconds, proving that he remains in strong championship form ahead of the event.

After the race, Omanyala reflected on his performance and pointed out a striking twist of fate, noting that he followed almost the same path to the Commonwealth Games during his previous national trials.

He strongly believes that his journey does not reflect coincidence but destiny suggesting that the same winning outcome could repeat itself on the tracks in Glasgow.

When officials question him about his growing list of domestic achievements, the sprint sensation brushes aside national titles and admits that he no longer actively counts them. Instead, he shifts his attention and motivation entirely to the biggest global stages and the most prestigious competitions in the world.

He explains that nothing else draws his focus to Glasgow except the opportunity to build a historic legacy by becoming the first African athlete and the first person in history to win the Commonwealth Games 100m title twice in a row.

He said, “I am excited about the Commonwealth Games and nothing else is taking me there apart from history. I want to be the first African to win it twice.”

This bold ambition builds on his landmark performance at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, where he won in 10.02 seconds and became the first Kenyan in 60 years to claim the 100m gold medal.

If he succeeds in Glasgow, he cements his legacy by achieving a consecutive double victory, a rare and remarkable feat that no African sprinter has ever accomplished in the history of the Commonwealth Games 100m event.

For Omanyala, the ultimate mission remains to leave behind a lasting legacy that will stand the test of time.

With his qualification secured, his journey to Glasgow shapes up as one of the most anticipated and thrilling storylines of the entire Games.
