Former Kenyan international Charles Okwemba has urged the national football team to maintain their focus and continue improving as they gear up for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Burundi and Ivory Coast.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Okwemba pointed out the significant improvement in the team compared to previous fixtures where they struggled to score goals. He expressed optimism about their progress, stating that they are moving in the right direction.
"They have shown great improvement from previous matches; they are scoring goals and Olunga is back to his best with the Stars. This is bringing a lot of confidence to the players and their fans as they head into the qualifiers," said Okwemba.
Despite missing key players such as Eric Ouma, Teddy Akumu, Johanna Omollo, and Abiud Omar, Okwemba praised the replacements for their performance. He believes their efforts will foster healthy competition within the team.
"They played well and seized their opportunities, displaying some excellent football. We hope they will receive more opportunities in the upcoming matches because unity among the players is crucial," added Okwemba.
Having secured victory in the four-nation tournament, Okwemba cautioned the players against complacency, reminding them that their World Cup qualifier opponents will pose a greater challenge.
"I hope in the near future they won't be thrown into the deep end of the sea because some of them seemed tense and struggled to adjust to the game. Nonetheless, their effort is commendable," stated the former Kenyan international.
