New Nairobi United signings Roy Okal and John Njuguna have expressed excitement and ambition after officially joining the club during the FKF mid-season transfer window, describing their moves as timely opportunities to grow and compete at the highest level.
Defensive midfielder Roy Okal, who joined Nairobi United
from Sofapaka FC, says signing for the ambitious Premier League side is both
motivating and challenging. The 30-year-old brings vast experience, having
captained Sofapaka and featured for top-flight sides including Mathare United,
Gor Mahia, Sony Sugar, and Ushuru FC.
“It’s a great feeling to sign for such an ambitious club,”
Okal said. “I’m ready to take up the challenge. As a player, I want to achieve
something meaningful here. The club won a trophy coming into the Premier
League, and I would also love to win something with Nairobi United.”
Okal added that the move presents a fresh chapter in his
career. “It’s another big challenge, and I enjoy challenges. This is a new
environment for me, so I’ll step up, work hard, and improve more as a player,”
he noted.
The experienced midfielder has been signed to anchor Nairobi
United’s midfield as the club targets a top-five finish in the Kenya Premier
League and seeks to retain the FKF Cup title.
Meanwhile, attacking midfielder and winger John Njuguna has
also shared his enthusiasm after completing his switch from Tusker FC. Njuguna,
known for his pace, creativity, and eye for goal, believes the move has come at
the right time in his career.
“It feels good. It’s been a while, so getting this
opportunity, I don’t take it for granted,” Njuguna said. “It feels nice to be
here, and I’m really looking forward to starting.”
The 26-year-old revealed that Nairobi United’s participation
in continental football played a key role in his decision. “Playing continental
football is one of the factors I considered when coming here,” he added, with
the club currently competing in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage.
Njuguna brings valuable CAF experience from his time with
Tusker FC and Ulinzi Stars, where he featured in continental competitions and
won the FKF Premier League title in the 2021/22 season.
With Okal’s leadership and Njuguna’s attacking threat added
to the squad, Nairobi United have underlined their intent to compete strongly
on both domestic and continental fronts as the season enters a decisive phase.
