Menengai Oilers' longest-serving player, Clinton Odhiambo, fondly known as 'Salah,' has bid farewell to the club after an illustrious 10-year stint, after securing a move to Canada, where he will be joining St. George's London in Ontario for the upcoming season.

Speaking exclusively to Citizen Digital, Salah expressed his excitement and gratitude for the new opportunity. "I am currently in Victoria for a few days, then later move to London, Ontario, to join my new club, St. George's London, which will be my new home for the new season. It’s definitely a life-changing opportunity to experience rugby across the globe and interact with different cultures. Hopefully, I gather enough exposure and become a better lad on the international map.”

Leaving Oilers was no easy choice for the seasoned player. Having spent a decade with the club, Salah admitted it was one of the hardest decisions of his career.

"On leaving Oilers after 10 years, I can say that’s probably the hardest decision I have come to make in recent years. I actually thought that would be the last club that I’d feature for, but here we are, embracing an opportunity that life has provided."

He also left a heartfelt message for his teammates back at home.

"Better never stops. They should continue ticking the right boxes, and without a doubt, they will achieve more greatness."

Salah’s contribution to Oilers has been monumental, playing a key role in the club’s rise to prominence in Kenyan rugby. His achievements with the club and beyond speak volumes of his dedication and talent.

His achievements include; 121 Oilers Caps, 5 Simbas International Caps, 6 Currie Cup First Division appearances, 1 Super Series Main Trophy, 1 Kenya Cup Final appearance in 2022, Two Floodlit Varsity Cups, 1 Floodlit Main Cup in 2024, 2021 Robin Cahill 7s Safari 7s Champion and 2022 Sevens Series Champion.

Odhiambo joins a list of several Kenya rugby players plying their trade in Canada, including his former teammates at Oilers, Brian Ndirangu and Gitembe.
