Speaking in Funyula, Busia County during ODM Delegates’ Consultative Meeting, the leaders led by Governor Gladys Wanga, CS Wycliffe Oparanya and Suna East MP Junet Mohamed defended the party saying it still stands for the ideals of its founder the late Raila Odinga.
"ODM is still the biggest and strongest party in Kenya. Bigger than even UDA. We are strong and determined to remain so, unlike these other briefcase parties that have no direction," Junet said.
Governor Wanga said the party will field candidates in every elective position, except that of the president because they are supporting President William Ruto's re-election bid.
"From the MCA, to the Woman Rep, MP, Senator and Governor, we will vote for ODM candidates. But we are supporting President Ruto because he has shown the willingness to work with us," Wanga said.
CS Oparanya urged members and leaders to protect the party, adding that there will be no free tickets for aspirants seeking elective posts under ODM.
"Everyone must go through nominations, there will be no free tickets for anyone. ODM is a democratic party and nominations is the only way forward," Oparanya said.
His sentiments were echoed by Junet who said the nominations will be free, fair and transparent.
Other speakers at the event also defended the party, blasting the likes of Edwin Sifuna and Babu Owino for leaving.
