OCS among two officers arrested over nightclub shooting incident in Eldoret

According to a police report filed at Eldoret Police Station, the incident occurred at Baniyas Night Club, located about two kilometres west of the station.
The report indicates that the two officers arrived at the entertainment joint at around 12:30 pm, where they ordered food and alcoholic drinks before spending several hours at the premises.
Trouble reportedly ensued at around 9:00 pm after an altercation broke out between the two men and a waiter at the club.
During the confrontation, one of the officers allegedly became violent, drew a pistol and fired a single round of ammunition inside the establishment.
Bouncers at the club are said to have swiftly intervened and managed to disarm the officer before police were alerted.
A team of officers led by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Eldoret Police Station responded to the scene and arrested the two suspects.
Police recovered a Ceska pistol, loaded with 14 rounds of 9mm ammunition. One spent cartridge was also recovered from the scene.
Authorities further recovered Ksh.673,000 in cash, 5 Euros, 15 US dollars and 10 Polish zloty from the suspects during a search.
The two suspects reportedly sustained minor facial injuries after they were assaulted by members of the public during the incident.
Investigations later established that the suspects were police officers identified as Chief Inspector John Ruto, the OCS of Villa Police Station in Kibra Sub-county, Nairobi, and Police Constable Peter Kiprotich Ruto, who is attached to Kapsaos Police Post in Turbo Sub-county, Uasin Gishu County.
The two were detained at Eldoret Police Station pending further investigations.
The case is being handled by the Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer (SCCIO) in Turbo.
