Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) women’s basketball team head coach Samuel Ocholla is optimistic his side can make a strong start in the National Women’s Basketball Premier League final against Equity Hawks.

The two teams will clash on Friday and Saturday at Nyayo Gymnasium, Nairobi, with Equity hosting the opening two games of the best-of-five series before the action shifts to Mombasa.

Ocholla says preparations have gone according to plan, with the players responding well to training despite some fatigue following a lengthy season.

“Preparations have been good this week. We had only a day or two of rest last week before resuming training in Mombasa, after which we shifted camp to Nairobi. Everything is going on well, and the players are upbeat,” said Ocholla.

“We know there is some fatigue here and there because it has been a long season, but we only have three games left, so everyone is focused on finishing strongly.”

The tactician is targeting victories in the opening two matches to give KPA a commanding advantage ahead of the return leg in Mombasa.

“We are hoping to win Game One on Friday and Game Two on Saturday. If we can take a 2-0 lead before heading to Mombasa, it will put us in a strong position to clinch the title. We will then look to finish the series and reclaim the championship,” he added.

KPA booked their place in the final after sweeping TH3 Swish 3-0 in the semi-finals, while Equity had a tougher route, edging Stanbic Aces 3-2 in a closely contested five-game series.
