Stanbic Aces head coach Maurice Obilo lauded his team's continued improvement after they registered a convincing 60-37 victory over Lady Titans in a Kenya National Basketball League (KNBL) Women's Premier League match played at Nyayo Gymnasium, Nairobi, on Saturday afternoon.
The bankers dominated the contest from the onset, storming
to a 27-8 first-quarter lead before taking a commanding 39-20 advantage into
the halftime break. They maintained control in the second half to comfortably
secure the win.
Despite the victory, Obilo admitted his side did not reach
the scoring target he had set for the game, but was encouraged by the progress
the team has made in recent weeks.
"Even though the team didn't quite hit the point target
I expected for the game, I'm giving them a well-deserved benefit of the doubt
as they work through the growing pains of being a new squad and mastering a new
system," said Obilo.
The coach pointed to the strides made by the team over their
last three outings as evidence that they are moving in the right direction.
"Focusing on the lot of improvement over the last three
games is a huge positive takeaway. Building chemistry and locking down a system
takes time, but stacking those incremental improvements is exactly how a new
team turns into a powerhouse," he added.
On the other hand, Lady Titans head coach Moses Mosebe
remained optimistic despite the defeat, noting that his team showed signs of
progress compared to their previous performance.
"It was a good match. I can say we played better from
our previous game. We have been really off this second leg, but we are really
catching up. We're hoping we play better in the next game that is coming up
next week," said Mosebe.
Lady Titans struggled to recover from the slow start but
showed improved resilience as the game progressed. Mosebe will now be hoping
his charges can build on that performance in their upcoming fixtures.
The victory strengthens Stanbic Aces' momentum in the
league, while Lady Titans will look to bounce back when they return to action
next weekend.
