Residents of Canaan village in Nyandarua have burnt to the ground, the house of a suspect believed to have been peddling bhang in the village.

The irate villagers said the suspect has destroyed the school-going kids in the region by supplying them with bhang.

Several parents claim that the vice was getting out of hand because some kids were even stealing chicken to finance the addiction.

Nyandarua Central Sub-County Police Commander Abdullahi Dahir confirmed the incident, saying police are pursuing the suspect who is on the run.

Neighbours told reporters that the landlord had been asked to have the suspect move to no avail.

“We have recovered barbed wire, rails and all manners of thing which have been disappearing from the village, these kids have been stealing chicken and trading the birds for the drugs,” a neighbour said.

The matter had been reported previously although no action had been taken, forcing residents to take matters into their own hands.
