Vihiga Queens head coach Boniface Nyamunyamu says he is not under pressure despite a poor start to the Kenya Women Premier League (KWPL) new season.

The former league champions have lost their first three games of the season, but Nyamunyamu remains unperturbed.

Vihiga Queens began the 2026/27 season with a 3-1 stunning loss to newly promoted Mathare United Women before another narrow 2-1 loss against Ulinzi Starlets.

The weekend’s 3-0 loss against Gideon Starlets was another humiliating defeat considering it is also just their first season in the top-tier league.

“I’m not under pressure because we are in the process of rebuilding the team. We have young players and we have to be patient with them,” said Nyamunyamu.

The experienced tactician is confident the team will pick up as his players adjust to Premier League status, and he is in no rush to pressure them.

“You cannot expect the kids who are just from school and others who are still in school to hit the ground running. Even some trainings they don’t fully attend because they also have to study, but I believe after five or six matches we will begin seeing a difference.”

Avoiding relegation remains their main target following a major shakeup in last summer’s transfer window with core players leaving for greener pastures.

“The most important thing this season is avoiding relegation. It will largely be like a learning session because we know we will make mistakes but we will surely have a good team in the future,” noted Nyamunyamu.

Josephine Werenga remains the only bright spark for the four-time premier league champions as she has scored their only two goals; her performance earned her a first call-up to the Harambee Starlets Olympic Qualifier’s provisional squad before she was left out of the final squad.

However, Nyamunyamu still demanded more from her and the attacking department, with goalkeeping also an area of concern that he feels they can improve.
