More than 50 professional golfers are set to converge at Nyali Golf Club for the fourth leg of the Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK) Equator Tour, with players chasing valuable ranking points in the quest to secure places at the 2027 Magical Kenya Open and the 2028 Olympic Games.

The four-day tournament, which teed off on Thursday and runs until Sunday, marks the latest stop on the nationwide circuit and is expected to deliver intense competition among Kenya’s leading professionals.

Nyali’s par-71 course presents a unique challenge compared to the inland venues that hosted the opening three events of the season. The coastal conditions, including varying winds and course characteristics, are expected to test the players’ adaptability and skill throughout the competition.

Leading the overall standings heading into the tournament is Safaricom-sponsored golfer Samuel Njoroge, who has accumulated 2,017 points from the opening events. Njoroge will be aiming to strengthen his grip at the summit of the rankings with another strong performance on the coast.

Close behind him is experienced golfer Dismas Indiza from Kakamega, who moved into contention after claiming victory in the third leg held at Limuru Country Club. Indiza currently sits second on the leaderboard with 1,890 points and remains one of the favourites to challenge for top honours in Nyali.

Also in the title hunt is fellow Safaricom-backed professional Mohit Mediratta. Ranked third overall with 1,580 points, Mediratta will be seeking a strong finish to narrow the gap on the top two and boost his chances in the season-long standings.

Among the players attracting local attention is Nyali Golf Club’s own Matthew Wahome, who returns to familiar territory encouraged by an impressive outing at Limuru. Wahome posted one of his best results of the campaign in the previous leg and believes he is carrying positive momentum into the tournament.

“I am pleased with how I performed at Limuru, especially after a challenging start to the season. That result has given me a lot of confidence as I head into Nyali, my home course. Competing at home comes with high expectations and added pressure, but I am optimistic about putting in a strong performance. I am looking to build on the momentum from the last leg and deliver an even better result this week,” said Wahome.

The event represents a landmark moment for Nyali Golf Club, becoming the first coastal venue to host the PGK Equator Tour since the competition was launched.

This year’s circuit has already visited VetLab Sports Club, Thika Sports Club and Limuru Country Club, with eight more tournaments scheduled before the season concludes.
