The Nursing Council of Kenya has warned that nursing courses offered by Northlands International Medical Training College are not recognized, citing a lack of official clearance from the regulator.

In a public notice released on Monday, the council said it had come to its attention that the institution was purporting to offer nursing training without the requisite certification. The nursing assistant or nurse aid courses are not accepted under its framework.

The council authorizes nursing and midwifery training programs and establishments in Kenya.

"The following institution is purporting to offer nursing courses... without the necessary approval from the NCK," the notice stated, naming Northlands International Medical Training College.

The council issued a warning, stating that any course offered without its consent is not accepted and does not meet the requirements for professional practice and training.

Concerns about unaccredited training facilities targeting potential students looking for jobs in the health sector are developing at the time of the alert.

Before enrolling in any nursing or midwifery program, the council advised students and their guardians to confirm the accreditation status of the institutions.

To prevent enrolling in unrecognised courses, the public is urged to check the council's official website, which lists approved schools and programs.
