National Super League (NSL) side Nzoia Sugar FC are
regrouping after a setback last weekend, using a friendly match to fine-tune
their squad ahead of a crucial league fixture against Soy United this weekend.
The team suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat to MOFA last
weekend, which exposed weaknesses across midfield, defense, and goalkeeping.
In response, head coach Charles Odero organized a friendly
against Butere High School, where Nzoia delivered a commanding 5-0 victory.
“We were not good enough in the defense, midfield and goalkeeping.
We conceded easy goals in our previous fixture, but we have prepared well for
the upcoming match against Soy by playing a friendly match against Butere Boys,”
Odero said.
With the National Super League season entering its final
stretch, Odero remains optimistic.
Despite trailing league leaders Mombasa United by 22 points,
he insists the promotion race is far from over.
“No one has reached 60 points, we still have 33 points to
fight for, who knows what might come out of it? The players should know that we
are playing to earn promotion, not just finish in a better position,” he added.
Currently sitting 11th with 36 points, Nzoia will face a significant test this weekend when they travel to Soy United, with the outcome likely shaping their ambitions for the remainder of the season.
