Makena Njeri has responded to the recent
drama surrounding her and her ex-lover, a hair and beauty product entrepreneur, terming the blow up a manifestation of
an unresolved internal turmoil.
The Bold Network Africa founder, who prefers
the pronouns ‘they/them’, said the drama is not about her choices nor about the
LGBTQ community which she represents.
Makena narrated how their friends and family were
judged, criticized and bullied because of the relationship that ended in drama.
“Not once have they lost sight of the reasons
why we are connected. Not once have they lost sight of our shared values, not
once have they lost sight of the mutual love and respect between us,” they
wrote on Instagram.
The entrepreneur however added that they’re choosing
to be bold through the whole drama and remain true to self forever, defining
the situation as both a blessing and a burden.
Makena also intimated that the relationship and
how it ended may have been a little toxic, saying it was highly unnecessary to
involve third parties in the name of evidence as it then spirals into something
else besides the two people involved.
“When people are dragged in “as evidence”
it’s more about tarnishing their names. At the level that people are being
dragged into what seems like a personal dispute, it’s more about being right at
all costs," they wrote.
Makena further stated that it hurt them to
see love ones getting attacked over the issue, however managing to remain calm and
seeking comfort in their truth which they knew would set them free.
The former journalist, in the two-part
statement, sought to reassure every single one of her friends and family
members who stood beside them amidst it all that they would stand by them when
needed.
“This is the blessing and the burden of being
bold when you look at people and see them for who they truly are but still send
them love and light through the attack,” they added.
To the LGBTQ community, the businesswoman said,
“this is not the time to retreat to the closet, but instead the time to double
down and acknowledge that there is a lot of work ahead - for us, for those
behind us, for those unborn.”
“We are significant which is why there is so
much drama. If we were not making society raise their consciousness and stand
in their own truth - whatever that may be - there would be no drama. So this
attention, although hurtful, is in itself a statement. We are being seen and
heard! So I call upon you to continue to be bold,” Makena said.
“It is only the two people in that
relationship who will ever know the truth and no one owns any explanation in
life. Growth.”
