National Liberal Party (NLP) leader Dr Augustus Kyalo Muli has dismissed the intended construction of the Kyuso–Tseikuru–Kandua road as a politically choreographed project aimed at advancing elite interests rather than addressing the long-standing hardships faced by residents of Kitui County and the wider Lower Eastern region.

The road’s advert was put in dailies on Tuesday following a week long war of words between President William Ruto and Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka with the president accusing Musyoka of failing to deliver development in his home turf even after serving in government for over 40 years.

Addressing supporters who trooped his Kitui residence for Christmas gift hampers, Muli accused President William Ruto and former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka of engaging in what he termed “politics of optics” designed to score political points instead of delivering people-centred development.

He argued that while infrastructure remains important, successive governments have elevated roads into political trophies while ignoring more urgent challenges such as perennial water shortages, recurrent drought and food insecurity.
